Fascinated by psychology and intrigued by interpersonal relationships and self-growth, I created “Dissonance” as a means to further understand those dynamics. The work references cognitive dissonance, the psychological discomfort of behaviors that do not align with one’s values and beliefs. It is created when someone holds two contradictory beliefs.
“Dissonance”, consists of pieces ranging from figurative works, still lifes, and interior spaces. The work plays on the disorientation of an ever-changing belief system while simultaneously being visually disorienting in itself. Self-perception is always evolving. With reference to the self, memory, and popular culture, the artwork is not only a form of catharsis, but also a vehicle of relativity for others. I invite the viewer to make their own perceptions of the work and investigate their own perspectives within themselves.
