ABOUT THE ARTIST

Ohso is a self-taught, mixed media artist, born & raised in New Orleans, LA! She attended the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts and is a graduate of John F. Kennedy Sr. High School. She also studied psychology and fine art at Delgado Community College in New Orleans, LA. Ohso later graduated with a degree in Computer Graphic Design from Remington College in Metairie, LA, and was inducted into the Alpha Beta Kappa National Honor Society in 1999.

Sadly, the fall of 2005, Hurricane Katrina destroyed her home, forcing her family to relocate to Texas. Ohso began creating detailed drawings by the age of three & primarily paints imaginative, 3-D composition portraits of Women of Color. Her mixed media pieces often include acrylic paint, ink, sculptamold, fabric paint, textiles, markers and watercolors. Ohso’s works often include Biblical Symbolism, Flora & Fauna as well as Nigerian & Scandinavian influences based on personal genealogy. Many pieces feature women with “Flowing Tresses” sculptured onto the canvas because in the African community our hair, spirituality, and identity are intertwined. In many black communities, our hair is said to act as a conduit for spiritual interaction to God.

Ohso is on the Autistic spectrum with Aspergerʼs Syndrome. She also suffers from chronic pain, due to Osteoarthritis which primarily affects her hands and legs; however, she remains productive as an Internationally Collected Artist.Her most recent exhibitions were held at Mahogany Gallery: Racine WI, Brooksville City Hall: Brooksville FL, and Zari Gallery: London UK
